MONTGOMERY, AL — The Montgomery Generals are excited to announce the hiring of Lamont Fowler as the new Head Football Coach for the 2025 National Gridiron League season. With a decorated background in collegiate athletics and proven leadership on and off the field, Coach Fowler brings a wealth of experience and vision to the Generals as the franchise embarks on a new chapter in Montgomery.

Coach Fowler has spent several years coaching at the collegiate level, with impactful stops at Johnson C. Smith University and Lincoln University. While on the sidelines, Fowler developed a reputation as a coach emphasizing discipline, accountability, and excellence. His ability to connect with student-athletes and prepare them for the next level has made him a respected figure in the college football community.

In addition to his coaching credentials, Coach Fowler also served as Athletic Director at Barber-Scotia College, overseeing athletic operations, program development, and community engagement initiatives. His experience in athletic administration adds a valuable layer of leadership to the Generals organization, aligning perfectly with the team’s mission to establish a strong presence both on the field and throughout the community.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Fowler to the Montgomery Generals,” said NGL Commissioner Joe McClendon III. “His resume speaks for itself — a successful college coach, a former athletic director, and a man of high character. He understands the game, the players, and the importance of building a team culture that reflects the values of Montgomery.”

As Head Coach, Fowler will assemble a competitive roster, build out his coaching staff, and prepare the Generals for their first season in the National Gridiron League. With his extensive experience in college football systems, Coach Fowler is expected to bring a level of preparation and professionalism that will set the tone for the franchise from day one.

The Generals will play their 2025 home games at the historic Garnett Coliseum Fairgrounds in a newly developed outdoor stadium environment designed to deliver an up-close, electric football experience. The team is committed to providing affordable, family-friendly entertainment while building strong connections across the River Region.

Coach Fowler’s arrival marks a key milestone in developing the Generals’ organization and their commitment to becoming a competitive force in the National Gridiron League. Fans can expect a team that plays with heart, discipline, and pride — the kind of football that reflects Montgomery’s spirit.
